History
of the
Mill House

The Mill House is architecturally significant as one of the finest examples of Italianate architecture in Dayton, an early example of high style design adapted to the needs of a small city. Built in 1880 by J.W. Rauch, the home was sold in 1890 to the Portland Flour Mill Company. From 1890 to 1923 the house served as the residence of the mill managers. The mill itself was only a few blocks away on Dayton's Main Street, along the Touchet River.
